Second Mate (Management Trainee)
Department: Retail
Reports To: Captain (Store Manager)/First Mates (Assistant Store Managers)
Overview: Responsible for assisting the management team (Captain and First Mates) in driving sales through exceptional customer service. Ensures the customer experience, supports out brand promise ("Every Day Should Feel This Good") and makes service a top priority.
Generate Sales:
· Supports store to meets and exceed store financial goals
· Measures and develops crew performance goals to increase profitability
· Actively looks for opportunities to drive additional sales and traffic
· Aware of market competitor activities
· Sources and supports In-Store and Corporate driven events
· Supports and communicates Corporate initiatives
Customer Experience:
· Acts as the Host of the Party
· Leads the store in email capture and educating new crewmembers on best practices
· Develops and maintains relationships with top customers
· Sources and supports in-store events
· Regularly meets with Captain (Store Manager) regarding development goals, personal performance and client relationships
· Helps foster a welcoming, fun, encouraging and energetic crew and customer environment
· Helps maintain a clean and tidy store environment
Crew Development:
· Helps management team conduct Daily Huddles
· Educates new crewmembers with the New Hire Orientation
· Continues to support crew learning around Product Knowledge and Corporate initiatives
· Supports store and team-building activities with the management team
· Attends Manager Meetings
· Sits in on interviews
· Learns new associate interview process
· Regularly meets with Captain (Store Manager) regarding development goals, personal performance and client relationships
· Maintains brand appropriate talent pool to fill open positions in a timely manner by proactive recruitment and networking
Operations:
· Learns and executes Opening and Closing store process
· Learns merchandise receiving and stockroom management
· Helps maintain a clean and well-maintained store environment
Merchandising:
· Supports management team to maintain visual standards
· Supports management in executing and maintaining The Compass (floorset)
· Contributes to weekly feedback regarding product
Requirements/Qualifications:
· 1 to 2 years of experience in a retail environment
· Has exhibited leadership skills and mentorship success in a past role
· Strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills
· Ability to plan, manage time, and make decisions in a fast-paced environment
· Commitment to career growth of self and others
· Team focused, confident, and professional
· Smart, intelligent, fun, goal orientated, and driven by integrity
· Strong verbal and written skills
· Ability to perform effective selling techniques to achieve sale and repeat business
· Ability to work a flexible schedule including holidays, overnights, weekends
