GLSEN
Creating a Better World for LGBTQ+ Students
Our number one priority has always been to make vineyard vines an inclusive and welcoming community, not just for our employees, but for our customers as well. That’s why we’ve partnered with GLSEN. They understand that if we want to create a welcoming society, we have to start at the beginning, and their commitment to making every student feel valued and important is something we’re here to support.
GLSEN was founded in 1990 by a group of teachers who recognized the role educators play in creating safe and supportive learning environments for LGBTQ+ youth. Also, they saw the opportunity to empower students through uplifting, youth-led movements, such as the Day Of Silence, Ally Week and more.
By conducting extensive research, GLSEN is able to create evidence-based solutions for students of all ages, as well as author developmentally appropriate resources for educators to use throughout their school community. Additionally, they advise on, advocate for, and research comprehensive policies designed to protect LGBTQ+ students as well as students of marginalized identities.
GLSEN has brought record support to the Safe Schools Improvement Act and the Student Non-Discrimination Act, and fought discriminatory legislation in over 15 states. Through their coordinated network of 43 chapters in 30 states across the nation, GLSEN is able to ensure that they can help students and schools in districts across the country.
Today, after over 25 years of leading the movement, GLSEN’s national network is more than 1.5 million strong, with students, families, educators, and education advocates working to create safe schools. More than 500,000 GLSEN resources are downloaded by students and educators each year. Everyday, GLSEN works to ensure that LGBTQ+ students are able to learn and grow in a school environment free from bullying and harassment.
Together, we can transform our nation’s K-12 schools into the safe and affirming environment all youth deserve. Learn more about GLSEN and their mission at glsen.org.
